YORK REGION LAW LIBRARY

The Joseph Vale Memorial Library is a private library.  It is operated by the York Region Law Association through an elected Board of Directors and its Library Committee. Funding is derived from annual membership fees with the addition of grants from the Law Society of Ontario, the Law Foundation of Ontario and the Ministry of the Attorney General. LiRN (Legal Information Resource Network) administers grants and provides strategic leadership to these courthouse libraries, allowing them to provide up-to-date resources and services that meet the evolving needs of library users. 

USE OF LIBRARY
The Court House Library and its services are for the use of Lawyers in good standing with the LAW SOCIETY OF ONTARIO.

HOURS OF OPERATION
The Library is staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday

AFTER HOUR ACCESS
(24 HOUR ACCESS INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS)

After hour access is available to paid up members of the York Region Law Association. YRLA photo ID is required for after hour entry.

BORROWING 
The YRLA Library is a circulating library. All borrowed materials must be signed out using the iPad Libib App or circulation cards provided in the front of most books. When a card is not available please advise the library staff. This includes materials borrowed for use in the Barrister`s Lounge.  Please note, you must be a paid up member of the York Region Law Association to have borrowing privileges.

FOR COURT USE
Borrowed on a daily basis; must not be left in courtrooms.

FOR OFFICE USE
Materials may be borrowed for 2 weeks.

DOCUMENT DELIVERY (Inter-Library Loans)
LiRN (Legal Information & Resource Network) has established free document delivery service between the County & District Law Library system.  This allows us to borrow most materials from libraries listed on the online catalogue. The participating libraries will either make copies of the section you need or lend the actual book to us for you to review for a week. LiRN covers the cost of the courier to acquire these items.

THE COURTHOUSE LIBRARY HAS EIGHT COMPUTERS WITH 24" FLAT SCREENS AND ALL ARE NETWORKED WITH THE SAME PRODUCTS. THE DESKTOP ON ALL SCREENS ARE IDENTICAL WITH LIMITED ICONS TO HELP SIMPLIFY THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE.
All user computers are Windows 11, and will accept the use of memory sticks and disks.

The library staff will be pleased to assist and train members on the electronic research products.

RATES
Photocopying self service $0.30/pg (Operating within the guidelines of the Copyright Act. A copy of the guidelines are available beside the photocopier for members and staff to refer to.)
