    To alleviate courtroom constraints in Newmarket, a pilot initiative will designate Courtroom 409 at the Oshawa Courthouse for Newmarket trial matters from September 1 to December 31, 2025. This pilot may be extended following evaluation.

    Please be advised that commencing June 30, 2025, all counsel Judicial Pre-Trials (JPTs) will be conducted off the record. This will help us maximize efficient use of our courtrooms and CSD resources while still encouraging and facilitating JPTs that serve to narrow issues and resolve cases.

    R. v. Pan, 2025 SCC 12 - The SCC, with a 7-2 majority, upheld the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the first-degree murder conviction relating to the mother, finding that a new trial is needed on this count for all the accused. However, the attempted murder convictions stand.
